An acknowledgement for De Jong and Aitana’s values

Frenkie de Jong and Aitana Bonmatí have collected this Friday the Barça Players Award, which acknowledges them as the FC Barcelona players with the fairest play. This trophy is the recognition that the Players Association hands out every season to the first teams’ players for their values. After a period of popular vote with more than 5.000 fans taking part, this Friday Aitana and De Jong have finally been handed he award from the Association president Ramon Alfonseda, the FC Barcelona vice president Rafael Yuste and Club board members Xavier Puig and Enric Masip. Association board members Tente Sánchez, Félix Barrado, Jofre Mateu and Laura Llinàs were also present in the award handover.
Commitment and humbleness
In their veredict, the jury have highlighted Frenkie’s commitment with the Club since 2019 and his permanent humility. A commitment also emphasized about Aitana, who is considered an example as well for future generations of players.
Values awarded
With today’s delivery, De Jong and Aitana are now part of a list of players who have been given this award since 2010, in which the attitude in and out of the pitch are more valued than the game level or the results. Except for the 2019-20 season, that the whole of the first teams were given the prize for their attitude in the first months of the pandemic, throughout the history it has been an individual award and from 2018-19 season including a female player.
From Bojan to Alexia
Bojan Krkic was the first ever winner in 2009-10. After him came Andrés Iniesta (2010-11) and current coach Xavi Hernández won twice in a row. Captain Carles Puyol and Javier Mascherano followed him, and then it was Leo Messi in 2015-16. The next season Sergi Roberto won after the historical comeback against PSG. Ivan Rakitic was the man chosen in 2017-18. After him, Ter Stegen and Alexia Putellas won in 2018-19.
