TIME: Less than 15 minutes

Have you ever tasted or heard of hummus? Did you know hummus is a typical recipe from Arab countries, and that it is known as well as ‘the vegetarian pâté’?
Hummus is a popular food in many countries, and therefore it is also prepared in a variety of ways. There is aubergine hummus, pepper hummus, beetroot hummus… But today we will learn how to prepare the most typical recipe: the chickpea hummus.

What do you need?

  • A tin of boiled chickpeas
  • A lemon
  • Water
  • A clove of garlic
  • Tahini (sesame paste)
  • Paprika
  • Olive oil
  • Salt

Steps

  1. Open the tin of chickpeas and pour them inside a liquidizer. Set some chickpeas aside to use them at the end as decoration.
  2. Add the clove of garlic, the juice of half a lemon, a pinch of salt and paprika to your taste, and four spoonfuls of water to prevent the paste from being too thick.
  3. Crush it all and add a splash of olive oil.
  4. Taste it and add more salt if you think it’s necessary.
  5. Serve the hummus preferably in a bowl, with a splash of olive oil on top of it. Add a pinch of paprika and top it off it with the 4 chickpeas that you set aside at the beginning.

Hummus can be served with breadsticks, or if you want to take good care of your diet you may also use carrot sticks, cucumber and some celery previously peeled and sliced.

Enjoy your meal!
