FCB Players to hold a solidarity day with refugees in Greece

In cooperation with ACNUR and Pas Giannina
Under the motto of #FCBPlayers #WithRefugees in Greece, a selection of players from the Agrupació Barça Jugadors, in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and with the support of PAS Giannina Football Club, will hold a solidarity day on November 18th in Ioannina with the refugees or asylum seekers in Greece, looking for sensibly, collect funds and recognize all the hosting efforts that the Greek population is doing.

The delegation, of Barça Players Association (BPA) led by the president, Ramon Alfonseda, will visit Katsikas refugees camp, in Ioannina northeast of Greece, as a symbol of some 50,000 refugees that are actually in Greece. In addition to this visit, the BPA will realize a football clinic for around 150 refugees’ children from six different camps in the Ioannina region. At the end of the day, they will play a friendly charity match with the veterans’ football team of the Greek’s first division club, PAS Giannina FC at the Zosimades Stadium. This encounter will allow the organization to raise funds in favor of the protection and assistance programs of the UNHCR in the Hellenic country.

The FCB Players launches this initiative in collaboration with UNHCR to make an attention call towards the difficulties faced by thousands of men, women and children with international protection needs in Greece who have arrived to the country during the last months on risky crossings across the Mediterranean, many of whom are waiting to be relocated in other European Union countries.

With this initiative, it looks for support and value the extraordinary effort and generosity of the Greek population around the refugees’ drama. Anonymously and selflessly, they have incorporated into their lives and territory the presence of some 50,000 people who come from very different countries, showing every day their solidarity and contribution in exemplary way.

Following its foundational purposes, based on the spirit of solidarity with needed former players and in the constant humanitarian task of supporting its members and families who have any type of difficulties, Agrupació Barça Jugadors is a non-profit organization that wants to offer its resources and capabilities in order to make visible the situation of refugees in Greece.
