The Association players enjoyed a hot and intense day of football in Brno. | Pedro Valero / BPA

In continental Europe it’s common to see tournaments played once the season is over, or in breaks in the season, with the perfect combination of short 6-a-side games, in this case they were 16 minutes long. The BPA have experience in these types of competitions and this time they participated in the Souboj Legend (Duel of Legends) Tournament, which was held on the 3rd of June in Brno (Czech Republic).

The team of FC Barcelona ex-players were special guests at a competition which brought together 9 other teams, all of whom were from Czech Republic and Slovakia. The marathon of matches was played at facilities built next to the Za Luzankami stadium in the Czech city. On a particularly hot day, considering the time of year and location (it got up to 32 degrees), the group games were played at quite a pace from half past nine in the morning. After winning two games and losing two, the BPA team went through to the Semi-Finals, where they lost 1-0 to Sigma Olomouc, who went on to win the tournament.

The BPA members who made up the team were Jon Andoni Goikoetxea, Fréderic Déhu, Jofre Mateu, Mario Rosas, Joan Cañadas, Javier Delgado, Jaume Llaveria, Sergi Pérez, Oscar Ollés and Sergio Chavarría. Directors Josep Palau and Eduardo Juan led the touring group.
