FC Barcelona’s first team receive the 2020 Players Association Award

Sergio, Piqué, Sergi Roberto and Alba collect trophy on behalf of entire men's and women's team who are honoured for their outstanding efforts in response to the coronavirus pandemic

The captains of the first team have collected this Thursday morning the 2020 Barça Players Award, granted by the Club’s Former Players Association. Sergio Busquets, Gerard Piqué, Sergi Roberto and Jordi Alba have been handed the gift on behalf of the whole squad, who are the recipients of this honor for their exemplary attitude in the first months of the coronavirus pandemic. In the 2020 Barça Players Award Edition, the recipients were both men’s and women’s first teams. For circumstances regarding the pandemic, the prize could not be handed until now.

The gift, a personalized replica of the FC Barcelona jersey from the 20’s, was handed by Former Players Association’s president, Ramon Alfonseda, accompanied by FC Barcelona’s vice president Rafael Yuste. The captains have received the card that certifies them as honorary members of the Association as well, as an appreciation for their contribution of the 0,5% of their salaries to the entity.

According to the award’s jury, the player’s attitude during that difficult time, from February to June of last year, resulted in individual and collective gestures such as economic contributions and the participation in initiatives promoted by FC Barcelona and other institutions. The workers of the Club, hospitals, social entities, health care workers and the scientific community were all benefited from these selfless actions.
