Sergi Roberto, winner of the 8th Barça Players Award

A panel made up of specialists from the world of sport and journalism has chosen the Catalan footballer as the player to have shown most fair play over the season.

Sergi Roberto has been named as the winner of the Barça Players Award, the award given by the Barça Players Association (BPA) to the FC Barcelona first team player who showed the most fair play throughout the past season. A panel made up of 18 experts from the world of sport and journalism chose the Catalan player from a group of 6 nominated finalists which also included Iniesta, Piqué, Messi, Ter Stegen and Umtiti. The six players received the most nominations from more than 2000 Barça fans who voted.

The panel took into account Sergi Roberto’s humbleness, as well as his ability to adapt to the needs of the team at all times. Furthermore, he starred in two of the key moments of the season; scoring the sixth goal in the comeback against PSG, and linking up in the counter-attack that led to Messi’s winner in the 2-3 victory at the Santiago Bernabéu. He represents the essence of the Masia’s core values and is a role model for the next generation of culés: with hard work and a positive attitude, anything is possible.

Other winners of the Barça Players Award in previous years have been Leo Messi, Javi Mascherano, Carles Puyol, Xavi Hernández (twice), Andrés Iniesta, and Bojan Krkic.
